As part of the Environmental Management Agency, the Department of Agriculture distributes mosquito fish to Calaveras County residents for use in their personal mosquito/vector control program. These events occur as needed and depend on current mosquito fish stock levels.
To qualify to receive mosquito fish, residents must:
- Prove residence in Calaveras County (utility bill or identification card).
- Provide mosquito fish with a year-round water source to ensure their survival during the hot summer months, when many creeks and ponds can dry up.
- Upon pick up, immediately transport the mosquito fish to their new water source (do not run additional errands or otherwise leave the fish in the bag for extended periods).
Each qualifying person will receive a bag of approximately 10-15 fish.
To be considered for the next mosquito fish disbursement event, call our Office at (209) 754-6504 or email us.
